Windsurf Divas

Rachel Tucker

Rachel Tucker (also known as Boozy Rach!) could be classed as a windsurfing addict. She is the smiliest person in the world and there is no challenge that this lady will not take on which makes her one of the best female sailors around. When shes not fixing animals (this multi-talented girl is also a vet) Rach spends every spare minute windsurfing so you are bound to catch her on the water somewhere!

Name: Rachel Tucker

Occupation: Vet

I live in: Cornwall

Divas week attended: Teaching Vass Divas in 2005 and then back on my hols in Sept. 2006

Favourite equipment: 72L waveboard and a 4.2m sail (one day on a skinny mast!)

Favourite place to sail: Beautiful Cornish spots like Gwithian and Daymer, Tenerife for regular winds and a range of conditions, Dahab for windy flat water. I also love sailing anywhere for the first time.

Why I love windsurfing: I love the feeling of speed and freedom, doing something active away from everyday life. I love the great social aspect of the sport, the amazing friends Ive made and lifestyle I lead thanks to windsurfing.
At the moment, Im loving slowly pushing my comfort zone to gradually handle bigger waves. It scares me but maybe thats why its so addicitive.

Memorable moment: Too many! Ill always remember sailing with the girls in Vass. Most Student Windsurf events were pretty memorable, up to a certain point of the evening! Ill never forget standing on a beach and looking up to see an air-sea rescue helicopter flying overhead that had been sent to pick me up!!! Oops.

Did you know:
The tongue of a blue whale is as long as an elephant. Sorry, inane animal facts are a cop out, its been a long day at work!

Motto for life: Hmm, not sure I have one… Make the most of it?

And finally: No one is quite the same out windsurfing. Everyone has different strengths and skills, will be at a different stage of the never ending learning curve and may enjoy different aspects of the sport, be it speed, tricks, waves or more often, just getting out there. There are always people to pick up tips from or give encouragement to. So it doesnt matter what your mates or fellow club members are up to on the water, what matters is that you enjoy it!
